Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim admits he is unable to hide from his poor performance and says it is normal that Old Trafford legends are questioning him.

On Tuesday, the club's all-time goalscorer Wayne Rooney mentioned during his show that "the spirit has vanished" from his old club.

The Portuguese manager has secured just eighteen victories from his 49 matches in control, featuring nine out of thirty-three in the Premier League, where he has still to secure two successive victories.

Although high-level club sources are insistent that Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to be backing Amorim, failure to overcome newly promoted Sunderland on the weekend will spark renewed speculation about his future heading into another two-week pause in domestic football.

"This is understandable," stated the Portuguese coach, when asked about Rooney's remarks. "You can't hide from the performance."

"Furthermore you have the legacy from last season, [although] that period for me doesn't matter."

Fan Response and Present Circumstances

United's fans remained supportive of their manager following last season's dismal showing, when they ended up fifteenth in the league - their worst showing since the 1973-74 relegation season - and were defeated in the European showpiece, in the belief that this season would be significantly better.

Amorim promised supporters the position would get better because he had more time to prepare with his team without the midweek distraction of European competition.

Unfortunately is not how the opening six matches have developed as Manchester United have endured 3 losses already and are currently 14th in the league.

Coach's Reaction to Questions

When asked what guarantees he could give fans that the situation will improve, the manager continued: "This is not the moment to speak, it is the moment to demonstrate."

"I analyze the games this season and, for me, they are totally different, but I have little to add at the current time."
